01The plant

What was being treated

A municipal oil and water separator of about 200 gallons, taking the effluent of twenty-nine automotive repair garages in Boston.

02Before

How the material got there

Total petroleum hydrocarbons in the effluent measured 22,940 mg/L against a city discharge limit of 100 — more than two hundred times over it. Physical separation could not keep pace with what was arriving, so the separator was pumped out repeatedly at roughly sixteen thousand dollars a year in pumping and disposal, and compliance still did not hold. Adding tanks or enlarging the separator was not on the table.

03Treatment

What was applied, and how

A hydrocarbon-degrading liquid fed continuously into the separator through a metering pump, so an active population stayed inside the vessel rather than being flushed straight through it. The load was digested in place instead of hauled away.

Every result in this library was measured at an operating plant treating with one of the formulations SediLogic supplies, over the window stated above. It is a field result published as reported, not a controlled trial we ran.

What the quantity was set against

Continuous by metering pump rather than a periodic charge, so that a population is held in a small vessel that is being flushed constantly. The record publishes no quantity and none is inferred here.

Effluent total petroleum hydrocarbons sampled against the city's 100 mg/L limit, with an interim reading at forty-five days and the closing figure at a hundred and twenty.

07Limits

What this record does not establish.

Nothing was left untreated, and a separator taking the flow of twenty-nine independent garages has an input that nobody controlled or recorded across a hundred and twenty days. No hydrocarbon loading figure is published at either end, so a quieter four months at the garages would look identical to a treatment effect. This is a collection-system duty rather than a lagoon, and SediLogic does not sell into it.

Only the volatile organic fraction of a sludge responds to any of this. Grit, sand, silt, mineral precipitates and plastics remain at any dose, here and everywhere else.
